The medium nougat Gingerbread Man loosely resembles the earlier Collectable Minifigure, featuring similar textured decoration and an identical moulded head. His pronounced moustache is unique though and the updated red buttons look nice. The decision to produce something more fantastical than many previous Winter Village sets has proven divisive but the model appears incredibly detailed. Furthermore, the minifigures are enticing and the price of £84.99 or $99.99 seems reasonable, comparing favourably with other Creator Expert sets. The upper level bedroom has quite a few fun little design flourishes.
However, the green and red colour scheme is excellent and loosely resembles Winter Holiday Train. The rocking horse is similarly attractive, providing enough space for the gingerbread baby to ride. An enjoyable sugary theme dominates the entire gingerbread house, even reaching the handles on some drawers within the lounge. I think there was the potential to include additional furniture but the designer instead decided to provide another door which seems sensible. On the other hand, there is limited room for minifigures beside the door because this area is partially enclosed. The aforementioned light brick also illuminates the internal fireplace, causing the trans-orange flames to glow.

LEGO fans have mixed feelings about the fantasy themes, but this one left a positive impression on many. For many of us, gingerbread houses are as much a part of Christmas as decorated trees and candy canes. The record for the largest gingerbread house, however, was set in 2013 in Bryan, Texas, where it seems like I’ve heard everything is bigger. This house, which came in at 39,202 cubic feet, broke the previous record held by the Mall of America in Minnesota. This train appears reasonably similar to earlier designs, featuring a camera piece at its core.
Furthermore, you can place the baby into an elegant medium azure pram. Its traditional design feels ideally suited to the Winter Village and the cookie wheels are fun. The set contains a snowblower too, featuring swirled decoration on each side along with realistic augers that are represented by spinning Technic gears. Both accessories include handles which are positioned for minifigures to grip. Numerous additional accessories surround the Christmas tree, including several wrapped presents.
I love everything about this set except the male gingerbread figure. I’ve compiled a brief overview of three similar LEGO sets you or your loved ones might like better. Also keep in mind that since the LEGO Gingerbread House is due to retire soon, it’s in high demand.
Apart from being a stunning display piece thanks to the highly detailed roof and decorative icing, I also appreciated the play features baked (heh) into the set. Like most Winter Village sets, a Light Brick is included in the set, to light up the fireplace by pressing down on the chimney. Speaking of windows, I also love the use of speckled purple and magenta bricks. The reflective speckles are not only eye-catching but gives the entire build this feel of whimsical magic – something you’d expect from a living family of Gingerbreadpeople. The next minor build before we get to the actual house is this little snow blower.
Some fantastic seasonal designs have been created and I think Gingerbread House looks splendid, even when compared with other buildings which are considerably more realistic. Here’s one for the adults, the families, and the young LEGO experts. The LEGO Elf Club House is a newer set (2020) that offers Christmas charm with a more “adult” feel. It comes with 1197 pieces, is a bit complicated to build, and features a more muted color scheme.
I also love that the designers included a pram for the Gingerbread bub, and a bottle of milk as well. The pram has some neat little details such as chocolate bars for decoration, and also chocolate cookie-rimmed wheels. I think this makes a good stand alone Christmas set like the freebie Gift and Carousel sets last year, but it doesn't fit the Winter Village theme in my opinion. Anything that would fit in a realistic quaint cozy village scene instead of something like this which belongs in a theme park or in a fantasy land. This example seems relatively simple but I like the rug and the curved cistern looks great. Moreover, green and red towels are situated near the bathtub, resembling the Portuguese flag and therefore making reference to the set designer, Tiago Catarino.
As hotels and malls have worked to outshine their rivals in gingerbread house construction, some houses have gotten larger and larger to the point where the average adult can comfortably stroll inside. Contained within you’ll find no evil witches, just delicious, seasonal cheer. And you don’t have wander through the woods of Germany to find life-size gingerbread creations. In fact there are a few you can check out right here in Southern California. But you'd need a truckload of candy to deck these adorable abodes, for several of LA's gingerbread houses stand at two stories or more.
