The Fashion Design classrooms are equipped like design rooms complete with industrial sewing machines, pressing equipment, grading machines, dress forms and industrial cutting tables. In addition, the college has state of the art computer lab classrooms where instruction is offered in Gerber Technology, Lectra Inc.,Tukatech and PAD Systems, which allows students to master technology along with traditional skills. The newest computer lab was developed to answer industry demand for training in fashion and technical illustration using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

How is Visual Communication design different from UX and Interaction design?
Our goal is to provide opportunities where students and faculty can create responsible, regenerative, and innovative design interventions and engagements. Change of major applications will be considered only for current UCLA students who have successfully completed at least one quarter at UCLA and are in good academic standing. The number of accepted applicants is based on the current total enrollment of undergraduates in the department.

Upon completion of the program, students will understand the cultural aspects of fashion in history, entrepreneurial opportunities in the fashion industry, and how to communicate the latest fashion trends and styling. Students will also be proficient in international business processes preparing them for the global apparel market. Retail positions range from major department stores to specialty outlets, and from personal stylists to employment in wholesale manufacturing. Fashion Merchandising is the-planning, organization, and development of fashion products to be sold at a profit.

If there is no additional enrollment space for a specific year, change of major applications will not be considered. Students participating in courses offered solely by UCLA Extension must meet the English Language Requirements outlined below. The undergraduate curriculum begins with a series of foundational courses in preparation for the major, and moves into core upper-division classes which comprise the major itself. Even though breadth is what this major is all about, you may be able to add depth with a specialty like applied photography or graphic design. Do not submit drawings, paintings, photography, or three-dimensional work unless they demonstrate high levels of polish and attention to detail.
Though you’ll have to take a few courses on theory, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to build the practical skills you’ll need to work in the field. Throughout your studies, you will create work incorporating a range of media and techniques that include use of typography, photography, and digital and drawn imagery. By senior year, your portfolio will reflect exploration of a wide range of projects.
The Ohio State University has a bachelor of science in Visual Communication Design that approaches the challenges of the visual design of information with informed research and appropriate digital tools. The curriculum includes courses such as photography, design fundamentals, introduction to industrial design, and design media for interior design. Students enrolled in The Ohio State University’s BS in Visual Communication Design degree program are encouraged to engage in internships with companies and organizations near the Columbus area or in many other cities around the country.
